Education & Interpretation

The Education and Interpretation Division oversees the use of the Museum for teaching and learning. This includes exhibit development and design, planning of tours, and making the Museum’s collections and exhibits accessible and engaging for audiences from the Berkeley community and beyond.

Cultural Policy

The Division coordinates the Museum’s response to international restitution requests, provides assessments as part of Museum due diligence for potential acquisitions, contributes to stakeholder outreach for programming, and serves as liaison to the Museum’s Native American Advisory Council.

Registration

The Registration Division oversees and implements collections policies and procedures on acquisitions, deaccessions, loans, analytical sampling, insurance, and risk management, and coordinates research access and maintains the intellectual documentation and records related to the Museum’s collections. The Division supports professional education through museum studies internships on the Berkeley campus and in partnership with accredited graduate museum studies programs.

Research, Information, & Publications

The Research, Information, and Publications Division is responsible for managing and improving the Museum’s knowledge about its collections, providing the means and tools to use this information, facilitating research on the collections, and disseminating information about the Museum’s collections to its many audiences.
