Salvador Cuirís and his pottery delivery truck; August 2, 1971.
Even greater efficiencies have been realized in the sale and transportation of pottery. Literally all pottery is taken to local markets, especially Pátzcuaro, in local trucks. Long before dawn every Friday morning, drivers pass through the streets, honking loudly, to announce they have space for transport of ware to market. A dozen potters-turned-merchants have large vans or smaller Volkswagen trucks in which they deliver pottery and other arts and crafts to stores in all parts of the republic. The 1,800 mile journey to Tijuana, with two drivers relieving each other so that rest stops are unnecessary, is now routine; wives sometimes also go along, just for the pleasure of the trip (1967). The sign on the wall reads: "Artistic Pottery and Artworks."
