The production of chocolate cakes goes back to Maya times. This set of tin molds was collected in the local Indian market. According to the collector, "Chocolate beans, stick cinnamon, and granulated sugar are ground together. The resulting thick paste is poured into chocolate molds. When the paste has hardened, the bottom of the mold is opened, the round bar of chocolate is removed and stored. It is used with milk to make a chocolate beverage when desired."
