During his time in India, Richard Lerner collected about 500 objects for the Hearst Museum. Unlike many of the museum's other Asian collections, which feature decorative art and crafts, Lerner's is noted for its large number of everyday objects. Many of his photographs document these objects as they were being made or used. All the objects in this case are illustrated in accompanying pictures, and, unless otherwise noted, were collected by Richard Lerner in 1970.
