Food vendors
Ram Lila fair grounds across from the Red Fort, Old Delhi. October 20, 1969.
With such an active street life, it is not surprising that India should offer a fantastic array of street food. Especially popular are chaat, a wide range of savory, usually vegetarian, snacks. The triangular patties offered by these vendors are samosas (meat or vegetable filled pastries); the round ones in the center appear to be aloo ki tikki, mashed potato patties. This photo was taken during the holiday of Dussehra, commemorating the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. At the fair grounds crowds gather to see giant effigies of the demon set afire.
