Gongs
Indonesia, Sumatra, Bukittinggi; Minangkabau
18–717a,b

Gongs such as these were used on several occasions—at ceremonies for the inauguration of kin-group leaders, in traditional theater; and formerly when people ate in the rice fields at threshing time. Held in each hand and struck together, they were played by groups of three to five men walking together.
