“The bronze objects created in the early first millennium B.C. in the remote highland valleys of Luristan, in western Iran, include some of the most unusual and intriguing items known from the ancient Near East. The singular appeal of these so-called Luristan Bronzes is not only owed to their bold originality, but to the glimpses that they offer of strange, uncharted beliefs.” David Stronach (Curator Emeritus of Middle Eastern Archaeology). The base on these pieces consists of a hollow tube that was designed to accommodate a supporting bronze rod.
