Statue of a boy; acacia wood
Giza, cemetery 1000, tomb 1152; Dynasty 5
6–19768

One of the finest private sculptures found by Reisner at Giza, this figure was discovered in the corner of the main burial chamber, leaning against the coffin, and not in the more usual location of the serdab offering chamber. Intact wood sculpture from Giza is rare because of the site’s ancient termite infestations. The boy is portrayed as a youth and not as a small adult form. Because no inscription accompanied the figure, the boy’s identity is unknown.
