Clay balls in tule basket; sling
Lake County, Lower Lake; Eastern Pomo
Collected by Samuel A. Barrett, 1906
1-10604/05

Pomo hunters used this set of 24 baked clay balls with the sling to kill ducks and mud hens. The tule basket, the balls, and their use in hunting were restricted to the Clear Lake area. Samuel Barrett, the department's first Ph.D. (1908), grew up among the Pomo in Ukiah.
