Woman's blouse (huipil)
Guatemala, Totonicapán; K'iche' Maya
Collected by Gustavus A. Eisen, 1902_
3-42
This huipil was one of ten that Eisen purchased in Totonicapán, a well-known weaving center. Woven on a treadle loom, two pieces were hand-sewn together at the front and sides. The lavish use of silk threads suggests that it may have been woven for use by a cofradía (a religious organization) in Santa Lucía Utatlán, Sololá, a town some distance away.
