Saddle, painted wood
Sweden, Helsingland, Lingbo; 18th century
Collected by Axel Lindstrom, 1902, acc. 1903.
Part of a collection of Swedish folk art, much of it painted wood, this saddle was placed on a horse's back to hold up the shafts of a harness. Peasants used it for trips to the market, the church, or on other occasions when they wanted to make an impressive display.
