Johnson Mound, Sacramento County, California (Sac-6, site C)

Johnson Mound, on the west bank of the Cosumnes River, is the source of large collections at the museum. Most were obtained by Jeremiah B. Lillard of Sacramento Junior College in 1931, 1932, and 1934, and donated in 1942. Among the approximately 7,650 objects from this site—dating from 500 through 1770 A.D—are obsidian artifacts, bone tools, shell beads and ornaments, steatite beads and ornaments, basketry, pestles, and baked clay objects.
