RECENT ACQUISITIONS

During the Early Dynastic period (Dynasties "0"-2, ca. 3150-2686 B.C.) many of the fundamental institutions of Egyptian culture, such as Pharaonic kingship and writing, originated. Displayed here are selections from a single tomb group, from one of the largest and most richly furnished Early Dynastic tombs at the site of Naga ed-Deir (cemetery 1500, tomb 1513; from Dynasty 1-2). Prepared for use in the Afterlife, these goods were found grouped together in a packed storeroom.
